The Real Story of Trump’s 2nd Impeachment

Scenic shot of the beach with waves hitting the rocks.

It Was a Beatdown of the Former President

Things that we should not lose sight of from this impeachment vote:

1. 57-43 is the score. Most bipartisan in history during the most polarized environment in history. It's overwhelmingly against Trump. That's an impeachment ass whooping.

2. It's a political process, not criminal or even about justice when you break down the machinery. Indeed due process is irrelevant as well as evidentiary efficacy. As a result, the defense could put forth unsubstantiated and irrelevant lies and it be fair game.

3. Conviction was nearly an impossibility at the onset but it became even more challenging when the theory implicated many jurors as co-conspirators. That approach will have to be analyzed down the road.

4. The outcome is emblematic of the political environment we are in. A minority of people representing a minority perspective throwing out all reason, fairness and practicality in order to maintain a grip on the way America moves. Right wing conservatives are the minority political demographic in this country. Don't be fooled. They talk the loudest, use money to manipulate media narratives, gerrymander to maintain overrepresentation in the House, have overrepresentation in the Senate due to the 2 Senators per state rule, but make no mistake, most people are not about this craziness anymore...yet our governing framework permits outcomes like today. Something must be done. The next frontier of politics is aligning government representation with the democratic principal of majority rule. Don't believe me? Just look across the country at all the efforts to "fix" fictional election issues that all only boil down to reducing the opportunity to vote. See the political makeup of people wanting more hurdles to vote and look at the makeup of those trying to make the vote more accessable.

5. Republican Congressmen and women believe there are more insurrection supporters in the Republican base than reasonable law and order ones, full stop. So much so that they will abide Trump's incitement of insurrection and/or failure to protect a long-time Republican, Vice President, who is a Trump loyalist, and his family, from murder at the hands of an angry mob. They don't like Trump, know he isn't a true conservative Republican, don't like the way he wields his power over their party, but they have weighed the odds in a primary and the math is 50+ insurrectionist thugs at least to 49.99- decent, true conservative patriots. Disgraceful.
